The Research Team
Brianna Shah
Brianna Shah is a senior at St. Francis College majoring in Communications with a concentration in Advertising and Public Relations. Brianna feels that studying representation in film and media is crucial for fostering inclusivity and challenging societal norms. She believes that this research is a small step in dismantling systemic inequalities by advocating for diverse narratives, fostering empathy, and promoting social understanding. She hopes that people are more conscious about the media they consume, where it comes from, and the purpose it serves.
Jessica Huang
Jessica Huang is a Junior at St. Francis College majoring in Psychology and minoring in Communications. She was born with physical disabilities and growing up, she did not see too many characters with physical disabilities on screen. Having written numerous articles related to disability, she understands the power of educating people on important topics such as this one. She wished to use this project to encourage people to be curious about the media they consume and to explore what is out there.
Louane Chartier- Lepaigneul
Louane is from France where she studies Luxury Marketing. Louane has spent the past semester in New York studying at St. Francis College. The goal of her semester abroad was to discover a new culture. Louane feels especially connected to this project because her mother is disabled. She wanted to research how disabled people were represented. With the diversity in our team, comparing the French and American point of view regarding disability representation just made sense.
